Do Not Throw Away The Fruit Peels, Use Them!

People usually peel most fruits and vegetables, and then throw away the peel considering it for a by-product, but actually they throw away an abundance of nutritional and health benefits. Vitamins, fiber, and minerals are just some of the things that we do not use in our favor by doing this. So, do not throw away the fruit peels, use them!

Orange peel

The orange peel actually contains 4 times more fiber than a whole peeled juicy orange. The peel is also full of flavonoids that are known cancer fighters. D-limonene is another ingredient that the orange peel consists, and is proven to combat harmful UV rays and reduces the risk of skin cancer.

To be able to consume the orange peel, grate it onto a salad and enjoy. Also, the grated orange peel can be used in sweet recipes like cake.

Apple peel

Apple peel contains 87% more phytochemicals, which help fight cancer, than a peeled apple. Apples, unlike oranges and kiwis, contain much tastier peel, so there is no excuse to avoid its consumption.

Cucumber peel

Cucumber is a great snack between meals, but with a peel of course. It contains silica, which is a chemical that helps build collagen in the body (connective tissue for tighter skin and muscles).

Watermelon peel

Fortunately, the outer green and hard peel of the watermelon does not contain nutrients, but the health benefits are found in between the white and the green part of the watermelon. After you eat the red part, eat the white one as well, because it contains the amino acid citrulline. This amino acid helps in relaxation and enlargement of the blood vessels which provides excellent circulation in our body.

The banana offers many health benefits however, the banana peel contains B6 and B12, magnesium and potassium. Also, it contains more fiber than the actual banana. Another benefit is that it contains tryptophan, which increases the levels of serotonin. Studies have shown that it significantly improves the mood and reduces the risk of depression.

If you are not brave enough to eat the raw banana peel, you can boil it for a few minutes and then add it as a supplement to your smoothie.

If you have not tried kiwi peel yet, now is the right time for it. The hairy casing of the kiwi actively fights infections such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus. Rather than eating the peel, which is not pleasant at all, put the kiwi in a blender and make a delicious smoothie.
